I’ve been sitting in front of my computer screen for far too long now. I want to write a little ‘get to know me’ post so you can learn more about me, why I do what I do and not just what I think about the latest beauty product I definitely did(n’t) need to buy. In all honestly, writing this is bringing me back to starting a new job when you’re forced to share a “fun fact” about yourself which is quite literally never fun and 9 times out of 10, not a fact.
Anyway, I’m rambling. You’ll notice I do a lot of that.
My love for all things beauty started when I was around 11-12 years old. I had always cared to some extent about the clothes I wore and how my hair was styled, but this passion hit me like a ton of bricks out of nowhere. I’m not sure what started it, to be honest with you. Maybe it was the girly magazines with the free makeup or my complete and utter obsession with America’s and Britain’s Next Top Model. But one thing is for certain, it has never wavered since.
When I was in secondary school, I started taking photos of my makeup, clothes and anything else I’d purchased with any money I had and started posting about it on Instagram. Not long after, I decided to create my own blog. It was actually pretty successful considering how basic it looked. I spent my work experience (one of many) and Summer Holidays at Brushstroke Shepperton Studios. You couldn’t really call it work, I helped prep classrooms and clean for the students but I modelled a lot and learnt so much from the established Makeup Artist trainers. I got my GCSE’s and A Levels and then qualified in Beauty Therapy (I couldn’t afford the 20-22k Brushstroke fee!).
After studying and working for Debenhams (horrendous – let’s not go there) and Ryman (I’m a true stationery geek), I started working for beauty brands such as Benefit Cosmetics, Bobbi Brown, Lancôme where I stepped into my first management role and then left to be Store Manager of The Body Shop and finally landed my dream job at Charlotte Tilbury where I have been for 4.5 years and worked my way up to management level!
So all in all, it’s safe to say I’ve been immersed in the beauty world for a very long time now and as I’ve reached my late 20’s I know exactly where I sit within this world and what I want to contribute to it. I love my full time job, management and leadership is a true love of mine and I genuinely believe I’ve had that streak since I was a little girl… even if people did just call me bossy! But on the other hand, I love taking photos, making videos, filming tutorials and writing. I love writing.
I have lots of goals both personal and professional and I’m so excited to take you on this journey with me. If you made it this far, thanks for sticking around and I’ll see you on my next blog post!
